H.B. 181 Summary

• Requires licensing authorities to issue occupational licenses to applicants who successfully complete registered apprenticeship programs and meet other specified requirements, without requiring higher examination standards than other applicants

• Defines "registered apprenticeship program" as programs registered by the U.S. Department of Labor, Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, or state apprenticeship agencies that meet federal minimum standards

• Amends licensing requirements for steam engineers, boiler operators, professional engineers and surveyors, construction industry contractors, and emergency medical services personnel to accept registered apprenticeships as an alternative to traditional experience or education requirements

• Specifies that applicants completing apprenticeships must still pass required examinations (unless the licensing authority waives examination requirements for all applicants) and satisfy other unrelated requirements, but cannot be held to higher passing scores than other applicants

• Excludes licenses issued under sections 4104.19 and 4733.14 (steam engineers and professional engineers/surveyors) from the apprenticeship provisions of new section 4743.09
