H.B. 216 Summary

• Amends section 4503.29 of the Ohio Revised Code to allow applicants for military license plates to present a county-issued veterans identification card as evidence of honorable discharge instead of a DD-214 form from the U.S. Department of Defense.

• Requires the rules adopted by the Director of Veterans Services and Registrar of Motor Vehicles to specify that applicants may present a veterans identification card issued under section 317.241 in lieu of a DD-214 or equivalent document.

• Permits applicants to be required to present additional evidence if the veterans identification card does not contain all information necessary for issuance of the specific military license plate requested.

• Establishes the military nonstandard license plate program to recognize military service and military honors pertaining to valor and service for eligible persons.

• Maintains existing provisions allowing disabled veterans to register up to two motor vehicles without payment of registration taxes and fees.
