Department of Education shall make recommendations for school counselor job descriptions within 120 days, based on standards adopted by the state board of education and the American School Counselor Association.

Recommendations shall specify that 80% of school counselor duties focus on direct and indirect student services in academic, career, and social-emotional development, while 20% covers program planning and school support activities.

Superintendent of public instruction shall designate at least one department employee to serve as a liaison for school counselors across the state.

School districts, community schools, and STEM schools shall consider the department's recommendations when preparing job descriptions and assigning duties to school counselors.
