Summary of Ohio H.B. 548

• Local authorities with a population of 200 or fewer would be prohibited from using traffic law photo-monitoring devices (such as red light or speed cameras) to detect and enforce traffic violations

• Amends Ohio Revised Code Section 4511.093 to add this population-based restriction to existing regulations governing photo-monitoring device use

• Current law already requires a law enforcement officer to be physically present at the device location during operation for any local authority using such devices

• Townships remain prohibited from using photo-monitoring devices on interstate highways regardless of population size
