Sub. H.B. No. 606 - Sarah's Law for Seizure Safe Schools

• Requires public and chartered nonpublic schools to create individualized seizure action plans for each student with an active seizure disorder or epilepsy diagnosis, including written parental requests and treating practitioner drug information.

• Mandates that school nurses or administrators notify staff, contractors, and volunteers who interact with or supervise students about seizure action plans and coordinate seizure disorder care at each school.

• Requires school districts and chartered nonpublic schools to designate at least one employee per building to receive training on seizure action plan implementation every two years, with training materials provided free by nonprofit organizations.

• Obligates administrators, guidance counselors, teachers, and bus drivers to complete at least one hour of seizure disorder training within 12 months of the law's effective date, or within 90 days of employment if hired after that date.

• Provides liability protection for schools and employees from civil damages unless the act or omission constitutes willful or wanton misconduct.
