School districts must grant excused absences to students in kindergarten through grade 12 for participation in scheduled 4-H activities or programs.

A 4-H educator must submit written documentation to the school principal or attendance officer as proof of the student's participation.

Students must be given the opportunity to make up schoolwork missed during the absence, and class grades cannot be adversely affected by the absence.

School principals cannot grant the excused absence if it occurs during scheduled state assessments or during any period when the student is disciplined, suspended, or expelled under terms that would prevent participation in field trips or extracurricular activities.
