County veterans service commissions shall consist of at least two members whose military service commenced on or after September 11, 2001, effective no later than January 15, 2024.

All commission members must be honorably discharged or honorably separated veterans and file their DD214 form with the department of veterans services within 60 days of appointment.

One commission member representing the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Vietnam Veterans of America, or Korean War Veterans Association shall be appointed by the board of county commissioners rather than by a judge.

Veterans organizations (American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, AMVETS, and Military Order of the Purple Heart/Vietnam Veterans of America/Korean War Veterans Association) shall submit recommendation lists with at least one person whose military service commenced on or after September 11, 2001.

The appointing authority must ascertain the current commission composition before making appointments to ensure compliance with the two-member requirement for post-9/11 veterans.
