HB 88 Summary

• Adds roofing contractors to the list of specialty contractors required to hold a state license issued by the Ohio Construction Industry Licensing Board under Chapter 4740 of the Revised Code

• Expands the Ohio Construction Industry Licensing Board from three to four specialty sections by creating a new roofing section consisting of five members: one building inspector, two non-union roofing contractors, and two union-affiliated roofing contractors

• Increases the board from seventeen to twenty-two total members to accommodate the new roofing section

• Establishes a transition period allowing individuals actively engaged as roofing contractors for at least three years prior to the effective date to apply for licensure within twelve months without taking an exam, provided they demonstrate adequate liability insurance ($500,000) and business compliance

• Takes effect 180 days after enactment, except for roofing section board appointments which take effect immediately
