Am. S.B. No. 153 Summary

• Directs the directors of veterans services and mental health and addiction services to establish and operate a pilot program providing electroencephalogram (EEG) combined transcranial magnetic stimulation treatment for three years.

• Expands program eligibility to veterans, first responders, and law enforcement officers with substance use disorders, mental illness, sleep disorders, traumatic brain injuries, sexual trauma, PTSD, concussions, and other quality of life issues.

• Authorizes establishment of one main location and up to ten branch sites, which may include mobile or portable units to expand access to care.

• Appropriates $6,000,000 from the General Revenue Fund for fiscal years 2022 and 2023 to serve up to 300 additional veterans and up to 300 additional first responders and law enforcement officers.

• Requires the supplier to conduct clinical trials and practices, provide peer-to-peer support networks, collect neurophysiological monitoring data, and submit quarterly reports to state directors and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
