School districts, community schools, and STEM schools cannot prohibit 12th grade students from the 2020-2021 school year from re-enrolling in 12th grade during the 2021-2022 school year, regardless of diploma eligibility status.

Students who elect to re-enroll must notify their district or school by July 1, 2021, and may retake any courses from 2020-2021 regardless of previous grades.

Re-enrolled students are eligible to participate in extracurricular activities and interscholastic athletics, and athletic organizations must grant up to two additional semesters of eligibility applicable only to the 2021-2022 school year.

Re-enrolled students are included in the district's or school's student count for state operating funding purposes.

The act takes effect immediately and applies only to the 2021-2022 school year, declared an emergency measure for public health and safety.
