S.B. No. 251 Summary

• Amends Ohio Revised Code section 4109.07 to allow persons under 16 years of age to work between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. during the school year with parental or legal guardian approval.

• Maintains existing restrictions prohibiting employment before 7 a.m. or during school hours except for approved vocational and work-study programs.

• Maintains existing hour restrictions: maximum 3 hours per school day, 18 hours per week during school session, 8 hours on non-school days, and 40 hours per week when school is not in session.

• Requires employers to provide minors a rest period of at least 30 minutes after every 5 consecutive hours of work.

• Maintains separate employment restrictions for 16-17 year-olds required to attend school, prohibiting work before 7 a.m. on school days and after 11 p.m. on nights preceding school days.
