Dick Schafrath was instrumental in Ohio State's 1957 National Championship and spent thirteen seasons with the Cleveland Browns, earning Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors and helping lead the team to the 1964 NFL Championship.

Schafrath served in the Ohio State Senate from 1985 to 2000, receiving the NFIB Legislator of the Year, Watchdog of the Treasury, Veterans Man of the Year, and State Government Man of the Year awards.

He was survived by his wife of thirteen years, Judith, nine children (Orie, Michael, Jeff, Renee, Ty, Heidi, Bruin, Gerrit, and Isaac), and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Schafrath was involved with Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Ohio Farm Bureau, American Legion, and Cleveland Browns Alumni.

The Senate expresses its profound sense of loss and directs the Clerk of the Senate to transmit an authenticated copy of this resolution to Schafrath's family.
