School district boards of education may choose not to release or permit access to any student's directory information, removing the previous requirement that restrictions on directory information be uniformly applied to all requesters (armed forces, businesses, colleges, etc.)

Directory information held by public schools is explicitly added to Ohio's list of records excluded from the definition of "public record," meaning it is not subject to public records requests

Schools may still release directory information to the Ohio education computer network management council, information technology centers, and educational service centers

Military recruiters retain the right to receive names and addresses of students in grades 10-12, unless the student or parent submits a written opt-out request

The existing prohibition on releasing directory information for profit-making purposes remains in effect, and schools may still ask requesters to disclose their identity and intended use of the information
