Public and private schools in Ohio may contract with transportation network companies (like Uber/Lyft) to transport students to and from school and school-related activities, including extracurricular events, field trips, and athletic events

Drivers must pass criminal background checks, have driving records obtained before authorization and at least semiannually thereafter, and cannot have OVI/DUI convictions within the prior 10 years

Vehicles must be inspected annually by a qualified mechanic, transport no more than 10 individuals including the driver, and drivers may not stop on roadways to load or unload passengers

Parents must receive real-time GPS tracking, trip status updates (pickup/drop-off confirmations), ability to contact the driver during trips, and driver/vehicle identification information

Transportation network companies providing school transportation are exempt from standard school bus regulations but must comply with child restraint and seatbelt laws
