Health benefit plans covering prescription drugs must cover any FDA-approved drug prescribed for a patient's disease, disorder, or condition, effective January 1, 2027

Covered drugs must be recognized by either a prescription drug reference compendium approved by the superintendent of insurance or by substantially accepted peer-reviewed medical literature

Coverage must include all medically necessary services associated with administering the prescription drug

Insurers cannot deny coverage based on "medical necessity" unless the denial reason is unrelated to the legal status of the drug use

Experimental drugs not FDA-approved for the specific condition and drugs the FDA has determined to be contraindicated are exempt from the coverage requirement
