Ohio House Resolution 255 honors the memory of Mary Rose Oakar, a former Cleveland City Council member (elected 1973), Ohio House Representative, and U.S. Representative who served 16 years in Congress

Oakar worked as a teacher at Lourdes Academy and Cuyahoga Community College before entering public service and was recognized for her dedication to women's economic equality

During her congressional tenure, she served on multiple committees including Banking, Finance, and Urban Affairs; House Select Committee on Aging; and Post Office and Civil Service Committee

She sponsored legislation to improve public housing, fight elder abuse, and secure federal funding for breast cancer research, and advocated for NASA Glenn Research Center, Lake Erie protection, and bringing the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to Cleveland

The resolution directs the Clerk of the House to transmit an authenticated copy to Oakar's family
