OH SB144

Establishes three new grade band specifications for educator licenses: pre-kindergarten through grade 5, grades 4 through 8, and grades 7 through 12, replacing the previous two-band system (pre-K through 8 and grades 7 through 12)

Allows educators with at least one year of classroom teaching experience to teach up to two grade levels outside their designated grade band for up to two school years at a time, with biennial renewal by the district superintendent or community school governing authority

Exempts certain license types from the new grade band requirements, including licenses for computer science, bilingual education, arts subjects, world languages, physical education, career-technical education, and intervention specialists

Permits educators renewing licenses issued under the previous grade band systems (prior to October 3, 2023, or between October 3, 2023 and October 24, 2024) to choose either the old or new grade band specifications upon renewal

Requires renewed licenses to include at least one grade the educator was previously authorized to teach under their prior license
