Emergency medical service organizations may establish community paramedicine programs allowing EMTs and paramedics to provide nonemergency medical services including chronic disease management, health assessments, home safety inspections, medication compliance, and post-surgery care coordination

Programs must operate under a medical director or physician advisory board that establishes approved services, protocols, training requirements, and continuing education standards

Health benefit plans issued or renewed in Ohio must cover community paramedicine services to the same extent they cover other EMT/paramedic services

Ohio Medicaid must cover community paramedicine services when the EMS organization holds a valid Medicaid provider agreement and services comply with program requirements

Services may be delivered through telehealth, and programs may establish partnerships with health care providers and develop plans to address social determinants of health for at-risk residents
