Public and chartered nonpublic schools in Ohio must purchase and install one exterior secure master key box on each school building by June 30, 2027

Master key boxes must meet Underwriters Laboratories standard 1037 and contain master external/internal keys, access cards, and building maps for emergency access by law enforcement and first responders

Schools must collaborate with local law enforcement on box placement and provide updated building maps when substantial modifications are made to facilities, doors, or windows

Schools may apply for school safety training grants from the Attorney General to cover the cost of purchasing and installing the key boxes

Amends existing law governing community schools, STEM schools, and college-preparatory boarding schools to require compliance with the new master key box requirement
