Licensed veterinarians may establish a veterinary-client-patient relationship through real-time telehealth examinations, in addition to in-person exams or premises visits

Veterinarians must obtain informed consent, provide contact information, maintain visit records for at least 3 years, and advise clients that an in-person visit may ultimately be recommended

Initial prescriptions via telehealth are limited to 14 days, with one 14-day refill allowed after a follow-up telehealth visit; additional refills require an in-person visit

Controlled substances cannot be prescribed through telehealth without an in-person physical examination of the animal

Livestock raised for human food products require an in-person veterinary relationship before telehealth services can be used, though general tele-advice may be provided without this prior relationship
