Ohio Senate Resolution 4 honors the memory of Ben Espy, a former Columbus City Council member (10 years, including president pro tempore) and Ohio State Senator (10 years, serving as assistant minority leader and minority leader)

Espy worked as an attorney for Allegheny Airlines, served as assistant staff judge advocate in the U.S. Air Force at Hancock Field Air Force Base, and worked in the Ohio Attorney General's Office before opening his own law practice in 1977

Founded the Columbus Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Holiday Celebration and the Columbus Youth Corps

Survived by four children (Elizabeth, Amy, Laura, and Lynnette) and numerous grandchildren; predeceased by his wife Kathlynne

Directs the Clerk of the Senate to transmit an authenticated copy of the resolution to Espy's family
