HB 1508 Summary

• Expands teacher shortage employment incentive program to include graduate-level students in mathematics and science who teach at regional universities or two-year colleges within Oklahoma's higher education system for at least five years.

• Maintains original program provisions for undergraduate and graduate students in mathematics or science who teach in secondary public schools for minimum five-year period.

• Limits total employment incentive payments to any qualified person to not exceed three times the average annual cost of undergraduate or graduate resident tuition and fees at Oklahoma teacher education institutions.

• Requires execution of appropriate contracts with eligible participants and authorizes the Chancellor of Oklahoma State Regents to contract with other organizations for program administration.

• Effective July 1, 2009, with emergency clause allowing immediate implementation upon passage and approval.
