Oklahoma Commission for Teacher Preparation is authorized to establish the Inner City Schools Rescue program to recruit, train, and support licensed or certified teachers working in inner city schools.

Inner city schools are defined as schools on the school improvement list under the No Child Left Behind Act or schools where 95% or more of enrolled students qualify for the free and reduced lunch program.

The Commission shall inform teachers of the program, collect and review applications, and establish an applicant review committee to identify program participants.

The Commission selects teachers annually who demonstrate commitment to excellence in teaching and working with at-risk students in inner city schools.

The Commission is directed to promulgate rules to implement the program, with the act becoming effective July 1, 2009.
