OK HB2010

Requires Oklahoma public schools to teach personal financial literacy education to students in grades 7-12, covering 14 specific areas including credit, banking, investing, loans, insurance, identity theft, and taxes.

Students entering 7th grade in 2008-2009 and beyond must complete a "personal financial literacy passport" (satisfactory completion in all 14 areas) to graduate from high school with a standard diploma.

School districts may integrate personal financial literacy instruction into existing courses or offer it as a separate course, with flexibility in determining when and where each topic is taught.

All teachers providing personal financial literacy instruction must complete a 6-hour professional development training program before the 2010-2011 school year and every 3 years thereafter.

Effective July 1, 2009, with emergency clause allowing immediate implementation upon passage and approval.
