HB 2187 Summary

• Prohibits public employees and officials from coercing state employees to contribute compensation, time, or anything of value for political purposes.

• Prohibits retaliation against state employees for exercising their rights or declining to participate in permitted political activities.

• Prohibits chief executive officers and administrative heads of state licensing agencies from directly or indirectly soliciting support or opposition for legislation from any natural person holding a license issued by that agency.

• Exempts persons serving on agency governing boards or appointed to legislative task forces from the solicitation prohibition.

• Establishes criminal penalties of up to $10,000 in fines and/or imprisonment for up to 2 years for willful violations.
