HB 2749 Summary: Music Therapy Practice Act

• Creates the "Music Therapy Practice Act" to regulate music therapy practice in Oklahoma and establish licensing requirements for music therapists.

• Establishes the Music Therapy Practice Board with five members (three licensed music therapists, one music therapy recipient, one Oklahoma Health Care Authority Administrator) to assist the Department of Human Services with licensure examinations and policy.

• Requires applicants for licensure to be at least 18 years old, of good moral character, hold a baccalaureate degree or higher in music therapy from an AMTA-approved program, and pass the Certification Board for Music Therapists examination.

• Permits licensed music therapists to use the credential "MT-BC/L" and prohibits unlicensed individuals from representing themselves as licensed music therapists or providing music therapy services.

• Establishes misdemeanor penalties for violations including license revocation, suspension up to six months, probation, or fines up to $500; effective November 1, 2010.
