Death certificates must be filed with the State Department of Health within 3 days of death, rather than with local registrars as previously required

Funeral directors must personally sign death certificates and are responsible for filing; if unavailable, the person assuming custody of the body must sign and file

By July 1, 2012, all personal data on death certificates must be entered into an electronic system provided by the State Registrar of Vital Statistics

The State Registrar must provide funeral directors and physicians with free access to the electronic filing system, along with free registration and training on system use

Licensed funeral directors must complete annual registration updates and training on system changes to maintain access to the electronic filing system
