SB 1259 Summary

• Oklahoma Department of Commerce must collaborate with an Oklahoma institution of higher education offering a gunsmith curriculum to develop strategies for attracting firearms manufacturers to locate near the institution.

• The higher education institution shall designate a liaison to coordinate recruitment efforts with the Department of Commerce.

• Legislature finds that firearms manufacturing qualifies as a manufacturing activity under NAICS Industry Sector 33 and therefore qualifies for existing economic incentives.

• Legislature intends that the Department of Commerce and other state agencies actively promote and extend existing economic incentives to firearms manufacturers as inducement to relocate to Oklahoma.

• Effective date is November 1, 2010.
