Senate Bill 1352 Summary

• Creates the Rural Food Desert Task Force operating until November 30, 2010, to investigate ways to encourage retail food stores to establish locations in rural Oklahoma areas

• Task force composed of 8 members: 4 appointed by Senate President Pro Tempore (including Commerce Department representative, commercial food workers organization representative, and elected officials from northeast and southwest quadrants) and 4 appointed by House Speaker (including Agriculture/Food/Forestry and Health Department representatives, and elected officials from northwest and southeast quadrants)

• Task force chair and vice-chair selected by members; quorum required for action; members receive travel reimbursement but no compensation; Oklahoma Department of Commerce provides staff support

• Task force must submit findings and legislative recommendations to legislative leaders and Governor by November 30, 2010

• Effective July 1, 2010, with emergency clause for immediate implementation
