SB 1374 Summary

• Starting with students graduating from high school in the 2011-12 school year, school districts must pay tuition costs for remedial courses at Oklahoma State System of Higher Education institutions for qualified students.

• A "qualified student" is defined as one who successfully completed a college-preparatory course in a district, earned a grade of B or higher, and was subsequently required by a higher education institution to take a remedial course in that same subject.

• School districts are not obligated to pay for tuition in courses that include a specific disclaimer in the syllabus stating the course is not suitable for college preparation.

• The act became effective November 1, 2010.
