SB 1690 Summary

• Removes the ability of county treasurers and assessors to employ general counsel, limiting this authority to sheriffs only.

• Restricts the general counsel employment provision to counties with a population of at least 450,000 persons according to the latest Federal Decennial Census.

• Eliminates the previous requirement that the Board of County Commissioners approve all contracts for outside counsel.

• Removes language specifying that general counsel be compensated from the employing county office's funds.

• Takes effect November 1, 2010.
