School district boards must work with the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association to develop guidelines and information sheets about concussions and head injuries for coaches, athletes, and parents.

Youth athletes and their parents or guardians must complete and return a concussion and head injury information sheet annually before participating in practice or competition.

Any youth athlete suspected of sustaining a concussion or head injury during practice or competition must be immediately removed from participation.

Removed athletes cannot return to participation until evaluated by a licensed health care provider trained in concussion management and receiving written clearance from that provider.

Volunteer health care providers who authorize athletes to return to participation are immune from civil liability except for gross negligence or willful or wanton misconduct; effective July 1, 2010.
