SB 1769 Summary

• Amends Oklahoma law requiring dealers to place temporary license plates on used and new motor vehicles, travel trailers, and commercial trailers upon sale, valid for 30 days before permanent registration is required.

• Modifies temporary license plate specifications to reference a form prescribed by the Oklahoma Tax Commission rather than specific physical material requirements, and requires plates to display dealer license number, purchase date, dealer company name, and additional information as required.

• Establishes a pilot electronic print-on-demand temporary license plate issuance system to be implemented by the Oklahoma Tax Commission by June 1, 2011, allowing dealers to request and print temporary plates at their place of business.

• Makes the electronic system mandatory for all authorized dealers by June 1, 2012, with the Tax Commission empowered to promulgate rules in consultation with relevant state agencies regarding system implementation, pilot program scope, and plate design specifications.

• Becomes effective January 1, 2011.
