SB 1780 Summary

• Amends 47 O.S. 2001, Section 11-801 to establish a maximum speed limit of 55 miles per hour over any bridge, excluding bridges on turnpike systems, four-lane divided highways (including interstate highways), and super two-lane highways.

• Maintains existing maximum speed limits of 75 mph on turnpikes and rural interstate segments, 70 mph on four-lane divided highways and super two-lane highways, and 65 mph on other locations.

• Preserves special speed limits for school buses (55 mph on two-lane highways, 65 mph on divided highways and interstates), school zones (25 mph), state parks and wildlife refuges (35 mph or 55 mph on designated highways).

• Retains existing penalty structure for speeding violations ranging from $10 to $205 in fines depending on how much over the limit, plus imprisonment provisions for repeat offenses.

• Effective date: November 1, 2010.
