Senate Bill 2001 Summary

• Creates the Support for Children of Incarcerated Parents Task Force to study and develop comprehensive strategies addressing economic, custody, and child support issues for children with incarcerated parents.

• Task force consists of 19 voting members representing state agencies, legislature, judiciary, attorneys, faith-based organizations, nonprofits, child advocacy groups, and custodial caregivers of incarcerated parents' children.

• Task force shall study child support calculation, modification, enforcement, arrearages resolution, and interagency information exchange while parents are incarcerated.

• First meeting required by July 31, 2010, with task force operating until January 1, 2011, with co-chairs selected from Senate and House legislative appointments.

• Written report of findings and recommendations required to be submitted to legislative leadership and Governor by February 1, 2011; becomes effective July 1, 2010.
