SB 2136 Summary

• Creates the Community Health Worker Program Development Committee to study establishing a statewide training and certification program for community health workers and related public health workforce development.

• Committee tasked with reviewing existing community health worker programs nationally, studying standardized curriculum options, evaluating certification methods, and assessing program effectiveness.

• Committee membership consists of nine members appointed by the Governor (3 members from Oklahoma Task Force to Eliminate Health Disparities), President Pro Tempore of Senate (3 members from health advocacy groups), and Speaker of House (3 members from health professions).

• Committee members serve at pleasure of appointing authority with no compensation, but receive travel reimbursement; State Department of Health provides staff support.

• Becomes effective November 1, 2010.
