SB 2181 Summary

• Creates the Masonry Trades Licensing Act, establishing state licensing requirements for masonry contractors under the Construction Industries Board's authority, effective November 1, 2010.

• Expands the Construction Industries Board from 7 to 9 members, adding two members with at least 10 years' experience in the masonry trade to regulate the industry.

• Establishes the Committee of Masonry Trades with 5 members appointed by legislative leaders and the Board to assist with licensing rules, examinations, and contractor oversight.

• Requires masonry contractors to obtain licenses through examination, maintain workers' compensation insurance, provide liability insurance, and comply with continuing education requirements for renewal.

• Authorizes the Board to investigate violations, suspend or revoke licenses, impose administrative fines up to $100 per violation, and allows licensure without examination for those with 3 years' prior masonry contracting experience through January 30, 2011.
