SB 2257 Summary

• Amends 21 O.S. 2001, Section 643 to clarify self-defense law regarding use of force to prevent unlawful interference with property

• Adds language specifying that self-defense applies to protection of "a place of business, whether owned or leased" when preventing trespass or unlawful interference with real or personal property in one's lawful possession

• Maintains existing provisions allowing use of force in self-defense when "not more than sufficient to prevent such offense"

• Became effective November 1, 2010

• Passed the Oklahoma Senate on March 8, 2010
