SB2309 Summary

• Modifies graduation requirements for Oklahoma public high school students by removing the requirement to demonstrate mastery of two additional subjects beyond Algebra I and English II.

• Creates differentiated pathways for students in college preparatory/work ready curriculum versus core curriculum, allowing completion of alternative requirements such as Advanced Placement courses, International Baccalaureate courses, business-endorsed credentials, or college coursework.

• Requires school districts to provide remediation and retesting opportunities for students who fail to achieve proficiency on Algebra I and English II end-of-instruction tests; makes remediation optional for other subjects unless students choose to retake tests.

• Allows technology center schools to provide intervention and remediation in core subject areas with school district board approval.

• Designates the bill as an emergency measure, effective July 1, 2010.
