SB 2316 Summary

• Department of Public Safety shall reinstate suspended or expired driver licenses for former offenders upon release from Department of Corrections custody on a limited one-year basis.

• Former offenders must comply with Department of Public Safety reinstatement conditions under Section 6-212 of Title 47 and complete financial obligations within one year to obtain a standard four-year license.

• Court shall grant a grace period of up to one year for payment of remaining restitution, fines, fees, or assessments upon offender request at release if the offender is at or below the poverty level, with no interest charged during grace period.

• Offenders shall receive information about their ability to request a grace period at the time of release from custody.

• Effective date: November 1, 2010.
