HB 1268 Summary

• Adds a fourth required mathematics unit for high school graduation beginning with students entering ninth grade in 2011-12, increasing from three to four mathematics course units

• Allows successful completion of two (2) career technology education credits where mathematics skills are applied to substitute for the one additional mathematics course requirement

• Makes the fourth mathematics unit implementation conditional on funding availability, with the State Board of Education required to determine funding availability by January 1, 2014 and annually thereafter if needed

• Specifies that approved mathematics courses include Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Math Analysis, Calculus, Advanced Placement Statistics, and other college-approved mathematics courses above Algebra I level
