HB 1332 Summary

• Establishes the "Bill of Rights Education Act of 2011" requiring the State Board of Education to adopt social studies curriculum including the Declaration of Independence, U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights, Federalist Papers, Emancipation Proclamation, Articles of Confederation, Gettysburg Address, and George Washington's Farewell Address.

• Requires the State Textbook Committee to incorporate these foundational documents into evaluation criteria for United States government, U.S. history, and Oklahoma history textbooks.

• Amends 70 O.S. 2001, Section 1210.508 to mandate the U.S. History end-of-instruction test include multiple questions on fundamental principles from each of the Bill of Rights Education Act subjects.

• Becomes effective November 1, 2011.
