HB 1538 Summary

• Adds pneumococcal disease to the list of required immunizations for children admitted to day care centers and homes in Oklahoma.

• Requires day care facilities to provide information to parents/guardians about meningococcal and pneumococcal disease, including disease severity, transmission, and vaccine availability.

• Day care centers and homes may provide required health information in established language or through similar wording that meets the intent of the notification requirement based on medical or epidemiological data.

• Directs the Department of Human Services to develop information about meningococcal and pneumococcal disease and make it available to day care providers by January 1, 2012.

• Effective date: November 1, 2011.
