HB 1542 Summary

• Amends 47 O.S. 2001, Section 6-111 to require the Department of Public Safety to issue distinctive driver licenses marking certain criminal convictions.

• Requires driver licenses for persons convicted of DUI/DWI (violations of Section 761 or 11-902) to bear the words "DUI/DWI Offender" or "Repeat DUI/DWI Offender" for multiple convictions.

• For adults 18 and older, the DUI/DWI designation remains on the license for as long as driving privileges are retained; for those 18 and under, the designation remains for a minimum of 4 years.

• Requires the Department to notify persons convicted of these offenses when their license is reinstated that the replacement license will bear the distinctive marking.

• Establishes that continued use of a canceled driver license is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of not less than $100; effective November 1, 2011.
