HB 1627 Summary

• Prohibits sex offenders registered under the Sex Offenders Registration Act or Mary Rippy Violent Crime Offenders Registration Act from working with children, providing services to children, or working on school premises.

• Bars registered sex offenders from operating buses, taxicabs, or limousines for hire; working as in-home service workers; or operating carnival or amusement rides.

• Requires persons or businesses offering services to children to conduct annual name searches against sex offender registries and obtain signed declarations from employees that they are not required to register.

• Prohibits law enforcement agencies from employing registered sex offenders as peace officers or criminal investigators and revokes CLEET certification for such individuals.

• Creates misdemeanor penalties of up to $1,000 fine for violations, with additional potential civil liability; effective November 1, 2011.
