HB 1832 Summary

• Enacts the Uniform Military and Overseas Voters Act to establish voting procedures for military service members and overseas voters in Oklahoma state and local elections.

• Defines covered voters (uniformed-service members, overseas citizens, spouses, dependents) and requires the Secretary of the State Election Board to implement procedures for voter registration and military-overseas ballot applications.

• Establishes electronic transmission systems for ballots and ballot materials, requires ballots be transmitted within 45 days of elections, and allows use of federal postcard and federal write-in absentee ballots.

• Permits covered voters to register and apply for military-overseas ballots using federal forms or electronic methods, with applications valid for primary elections automatically extending to general elections and runoffs.

• Repeals prior military and overseas voting statutes (26 O.S. 2001, Sections 14-116 through 14-121) and becomes effective January 1, 2012.
