HB 1835 Summary

• Increases Oklahoma Council on Firefighter Training membership from 9 to 10 members, including adding the Director of Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education as an ex officio nonvoting member.

• Requires the Council to set minimum standards for basic and continuing education programs for career and volunteer firefighters and identify approved training programs.

• Modifies volunteer firefighter tax credit program by allowing training from Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education in addition to Oklahoma State University, and requires local fire chiefs to choose and approve training.

• Eliminates specific CBRN and WMD training requirements and shifts equivalency determination to the Oklahoma Council on Firefighter Training.

• Changes Council governance to select chairperson and vice-chairperson annually, with requirement that either position be held by a volunteer firefighter, and increases meeting frequency from 4 to 6 times annually.
