HB 1985 Summary

• Amends the Oklahoma Personnel Act (74 O.S. Section 840-4.14) to add employment preference points for spouses of service members killed in action or who died from service-related injuries.

• Adds 5 points to final examination scores for spouses of deceased service members (killed in action or died from active duty injuries), certified by Veterans Administration or Defense Department within 6 months of application.

• Maintains existing 5-point and 10-point preference systems for veterans, unremarried surviving spouses, and disabled veterans already in law.

• Allows war veterans with Purple Heart or service-connected disabilities who have been Oklahoma residents for at least one year to reopen closed employment registers.

• Effective date: November 1, 2011.
