HB2137 Summary

• Amends 63 O.S. 2001, Sections 931 and 932 to modify the Board of Medicolegal Investigations by adding a ninth member: Director of an organization dedicated to forensic science education, training and research, appointed by the Board.

• Requires the Board to promulgate rules specifically mandating that district death investigators be certified through the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators and specifying procedures for maintaining such certifications.

• Requires the Chief Medical Examiner to request a national criminal background check from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation for each applicant seeking employment with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

• Creates new Section 937A of Title 63 codifying the criminal background check requirement for applicants to the Chief Medical Examiner's office.

• Effective date: September 1, 2011.
