SB 187 Summary

• Amends 19 O.S. 2001, Section 547 regarding deputy sheriffs and reserve force deputy sheriffs in Oklahoma counties.

• Requires sheriffs or CLEET-certified deputy sheriffs to accompany reserve force deputy sheriffs during duty performance unless the reserve deputy has completed a 160-hour basic police course within 12 months of commissioning.

• Limits reserve force deputy sheriffs with at least 160 hours of training to a maximum of 140 hours per calendar month.

• Authorizes sheriffs to deputize municipal police officers and enter into mutual aid agreements with other jurisdictions under the Interlocal Cooperation Act.

• Authorizes sheriffs and their deputies to respond to emergency requests from other jurisdictions with full law enforcement authority and allows reserve deputies to serve civil process.

• Effective November 1, 2011.
